5 Star tuner

Does anyone have any experience with 5 Star Tuning products?
The motor home that I am looking to purchase on Monday is a 1999 Damen Challenger with the 275 hp 6.8 v10.F53 chassis.I have read complaints about this being under powered and excessive shifting on small inclines.

1999 Ford CHALLENGER

I have come across 5 star tuning in a few places and it is a fair bit cheaper than a Banks system which I have seen a lot of in forums but it is fairly expensive.Has anyone experienced both ?
I have read that both systems improve the 275 hp motor more than later models.

If anyone has knowledge of headers or aftermarket exhaust systems that improve mileage or performance for this unit I would like to hear from you.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

IRV2 has posts on the banks system from users. Cost for it runs 2500-3000 installed on average. Yes, the gains on the older V10 engines are much better than the later 30 valve V10. You will see horsepower and torque gains which will result in fewer shifts on moderate grades and on steeper grades you should see less high rev. The jury is out on a mpg gain. They claim up to a 10% gain but remember that is estimated using their test rig under optimum conditions. Most folks do not see optimum conditions.....so at 6mpg a possible gain of .6 mpg. For 3K$?...3K buys a lot of gas. I have a 30 valve and 5 star tune for tow/haul 87 octane. It gave me a bit more torque and HP. More importantly it changed my shift patterns which results in staying in lower gears longer and less high rev episodes. Too early to tell if I picked up more mpg. I might consider installing the Cold Air ram injection.....it did make a bit of difference on shift points on my last motorhome, it is fairly inexpensive to do and maybe install a free flowing muffler to reduce engine back pressure. Hope this helps.

I had the 5startune in my 2005 gas and loved it. I had the 310 horse 20 valve. It was easy hooking up to the obII connector and down loading the tune. Before you update the machine you will need to return it to the original tune, update the machine and then update the rv. The tune would help on the hills. Before the tune my rpm would drop to 3.3 and after the tune it dropped to 5.5. It would still down shift on steep hills. My mileage according to the scan gauge I had my mpg went from 7.7 to 8.3 average. I traded the gas and now have a diesel but I still have the tune. You can talk to Mike at 5startune and he will be glad to answer any of your questions. It has the 87 tune.
