5Star Tune Results Georgetown V-10 Gasser
5 Star Tune Install - Sunday May 27,2018
2012 Georgetown XL 378TX with 60,2030 5 speed transmission.
Program Install:
After reading the documents and updating the firmware for the tuner using the wifi connection to the internet I was ready.
I plugged the cable into my OBDII plug located to the right of the steering wheel attached to the dash.
It said to turn on ignition but do not start engine. FYI my brake power boost pump goes on in this mode and I proceeded with what it said on the programmer.
It acknowledged the engine and asked a few questions like octane which I left as default 87 and something about illegal in California etc.
It took about 5 -8 minutes to copy the OEM program from the MH computer to the programmer.
Next it installed new Ford V-10 programming which took another 2-3 minutes. It also show the percentage of task on the screen until done.
So What did it do?
I drove 20 miles on 2 lane route 45-55 mph and Interstate highway 55-70 mph
As soon as I drove onto the road the I felt that the gas pedal seemed to be more firm and responsive on the acceleration. The transmission felt like it didn't have to work as hard to get up to speed and engine was quieter 0 to 45 mph.
Getting onto highway I felt was easier for the engine and transmission 10 -55mph as I merged.
At 55 mph RPMs 1900 rpm which is unusually as it is normally 2,000 rpms at 55mph prior to the flash.
I turned on cruise control at 55mph and hit a few small hills and it quietly slipped down to 4th gear and no further. Usually it drops 2 gears to 3rd. Nice.
OK headed up to 65mph and easily went to 70 mph and it did seem to get there with less effort. Again that is the foot pedal, hand on steering wheel, butt vibration and hearing senses that comes to that conclusion.
Now at 65mph my rpm was running a bit higher at 2,200 rpm but this may be because the after driving awhile and engine tightens up it seems to drop down to a easy 2,100 rpm's for me .
I will have to repeat this test on my September trip.
I did notice that my tachometer was steady at different speeds and it seem it lose that little up and down fluctuation I have seen in the past. We will check this again.
I also felt the gear changes were solid and less delay/slippage going into a gear.
So for this 1st short test drive I did notice things that seems to help the engine run smoothly down the road. My pedal feel/ butt feeling was speeding up was more effortless and smoother than previously. It's hard to put it into words but the transmission seems to now be working in a better way and that transformed into a more stable feel in my butt and hand on the steering wheel.
It is just difficult to explain but I'm happy and looking forward to my 3,000 mile trip cross country
