A/C Problems ?

I have a 2017 Holiday Rambler Vacationer 36H. It has two A/C units both Coleman Mach 9330A3341 (One with Solor Panel) Zone Control 9 Series with Digital Thermostat.

As an example of the problem on 08-21-2018 it was a normal sunny day when I parked the RV (Plugged in & set the A/C). The Zone 1 temperature read 86 degrees, Zone 2 read 76 degrees, a difference of 10 degrees between the two zones. I set both zones to 76.

Left the RV & came back 5 Hours later Zone 1 cooled down only 6 degrees to 80 (in 5 Hrs.). Zone 2 cooled down 1 degree to 75 actually below the 76 setting.
I don't think Zone 1 is cooling like it should & (or) the temperature readings are way off. Zone 2 seams to cool a least twice as fast as Zone 1.

Has anyone had a similar problems or does this seem normal to you?

Thanks,
Roger Frederick

Well, if Zone 1 has that big old windshield in its zone, I would say that AC is doing all it can compared to Zone 2 workload.

What was the ambient temperature that day?

Zone 1 sensor probably on the wall in the sun. If your air is coming out cold then you have everyone’s problem inaccurate sensors.

Hi Roger! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Noticed that you are kinda new on IRV2 and wanted to say hello!

Are you checking the temps with a separate thermometer or on the thermostat? As others have said, it will depend a lot on where the remote sensor is located! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Thanks, for the good feedback. The temperature was approx 74-78 that day.

Another question is Zone 1 has a solar panel on top of A/C cover could this cause higher temperatures? I'll ask the dealer that one!

No those little panels don’t do much more than give a bird a place to land.

When the AC unit is attempting to cool down the air space, the air temp entering the area from the AC duct should be about 20 degrees lower than the air temp entering the return duct.

Sticking an instant thermometer into each air duct is the best measure of the above result.

Once the thermostat records the temp attained in the Zone as below the target temp (1 to 3 degrees) the AC should shut down.

The key question is: Was your Zone 1 AC unit still trying to cool its Zone to 76 degrees?

If not, then the thermostat might need calibrating.
