A/C stains

I am getting rust colored stains from my roof A/Cs. Suspect it is iron bacteria but not sure. Is there a solution to this problem?

Welcome aboard!
Have you been up on the roof? Had the cover off the AC unit? While the evaporator tray may be rusting out on an aged unit, the condensation may be picking up color from leaves, pollen, dust, or anything else trapped on the roof or in the gutters.

I do believe that the rust will be impossible to stop unless you can eliminate its source. New ac units will eliminate the problem but any other fix will produce only temporary results. Of course, someone else may have a solution to help you. We’ll see.

There are several products that will remove rust stains. Iron Out always worked well on my fiberglass boats.

Naval Jelly, oxalic acid, and lemon juice are all good rust removers also. Rinse with a lot of water and rewax the affected area right away.

Coach is new (2023). Have not yet had cover off as I didn’t think rusting would be an issue. Read about iron bacteria but not sure if that is what I have.

How close are you to the sea breezes there in Florida? It is more than likely the salt air is the agent rather than iron bacteria, an agent often mentioned more with well water. You need to get on the roof and apply lacquer to the rusty hardware when you find it.

Take in to dealer if under warrenty and have them check it out . Could be a roof leak around A/C cutout or backup in drain line .

The acs are condensing water out of the air. It shouldn’t have iron in it unless you’re parked near some chemical plant pumping it into the air. I would think it is wash water .

I hadn’t read your profile so I didn’t know your coach was new. No idea but personally, I agree with another in that I’d call whoever you purchased it from or the ac manufacturer to get some ideas. Let them take a look at it. Good luck.
