Accident repairs in SW Louisiana

Looking for recommendations for Freightliner coach repairs near Crowley (SW) Louisiana (Rt 10, 25 mi west of Lafayette or 80 mi west of Baton Rouge)

Well the bad stuff happened to us. We got hit by a pickup turning into a truck stop. Everyone's OK, but the coach is out of commission. Hit in the right rear behind the drive wheels. No chassis power (can't start & no instruments).
The coach is going to need both engine and significant body work. I'd like to get the coach drivable so I can get it back to Red Bay to have all the work done there by people who know what they're doing. The local Progressive agent is coming to inspect the coach tomorrow so I'll get their input on next steps then.

Any recommendations on who could do the initial work on the rig? Anyone been through this can share their experience and educate me on what to expect appreciated as well. The coach is a Tiffin 38 DP on a Freightliner chassis.

CoachNet is suggesting Martin Truck Center in Lake Charles.

Thanks in advance
Ed & Deb

Sorry about the accident but I'm glad you're okay.

Martin Truck Center is a Freightliner dealer but doesn't have very good reviews (typical of a lot of Freightliner dealers). I doubt that they do body work, however.

Let me take a look in my log notes and I'lll get back to this thread if I find anybody else you might consider taking it to.

Well, according to my journal notes, I talked with a guy who had some minor body repairs on his Newmar Dutch Star(?) at Truck N Trailer Equipment outside of Lake Charles. This was over ten years ago, however, and i just have sketchy notes on it. He said a tree fell on his motorhome and it had some fiberglass body damage. He said these guys did excellent work.

The good thing about them is that they also do mechanical work on trucks too so in all likelihood, you might be able to have them do everything in order to get you back on the road in order to take it where you want later. I suppose you can tell them that ..."just do the minimum so it's driveable as I have somewhere near my home base where I'd like to take it later..." etc. Not sure if the place would be acceptable to Progressive or not, however.

I would try to work with the idiot's insurance company and demand that they transport the RV back to Re Bay for repairs.

1. If the p.u.has Progressive insurance and you have a different brand I wouldn’t hesitate to get my insurance company involved. Don’t accept the 1st offer. They will try to lowball you to control their costs.

2. Does Red Bay repair accident damage ?

3. If this was a car they’d give you a rental while yours is being fixed.
Are they going to give you a rental RV? Or compensate you somehow?

4. The insurance company will tell you here’s X dollars and that’s all we’ll pay.
If you want to haul it to Red Bay go ahead. We’re not paying for that.

5. I looked at your profile but didn’t see a home base listed. If you live in RB you might stand a chance of having Tiffin fix it.

6. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

How old is the rv? By the sound of it, might be totaled.

Hi there, just read your post. Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope all is well. If you are still looking for place that can work on your RV try giving Wade with Power house RV a call. They are located in Broussard a few miles south of Lafayette. 337 239 4222.

I know a body shop that works on RV's in west central Louisiana, my son's car is there right now after he was low speed T-boned in Lake Charles by a hit and run driver in Feb, unfortunately they can be slow, but do good work, and have fair prices, it was over a month to get my son's car in to be fixed, and it has been at the shop there for over a month getting fixed. They just called to say it was ready to pick up on Thursday. They were rebuilding the rear end of a late model Allegro Bay when I was by there last week.
