Adding "insulation" to the wet bay floor
I'm sure my rig is like a lot of others, the wet bay floor is 1/4 inch thick and also hangs below the rest of the floor or basement by 3 or 4 inches. I made a mistake when I was redoing things in the wet bay and put my water pump on the floor of the bay, on that 1/4 inch floor. Happened to be in KY with freezing temps and although the bay stayed above freezing, the water pump did freeze.
Not a big deal, going to move the pump, but got me wondering how people insulate that floor. With the fact that water will also be in the area, you can't put just anything there for insulation. Thought about spray foam but when I have used that stuff out of a can, I couldn't control the levelness and thickness of it. Anyone have ideas on what works?

Fill the area with ping-pong balls and overlay that with plywood or polycarbonate panel. Good luck!

One inch or thicker closed cell foam and a plywood subfloor should help.

What he said. ^^^^^ Some potato storage buildings have urethane sprayed on the outside to insulate the storage bins. Then they are painted white. I had that company spray 2" of urethane on the underside of our 2003 Phaeton including the wet bay. I had to cut out for the drain hole, but I drove in -15 degree weather with full water and never had a freeze up. I think I have seen a product in a spray can that could do the same thing. Check with a building supply outlet. If it will spray a wide pattern, you can do it yourself. Once sprayed on, it will expand, so experiment first to get the correct amount on.

Rigid foam board 3/4" cut to fit with reflective bubble wrap top or bottom - Simple easy and works.
