Adding two batteries

I am considering switching from two 12v coach batteries to four 6v. Our batteries are under the steps. I once saw an excellent thread on the subject with lots of great pics but cannot seem to find it now when I search. Can anyone help pls?

The first thing to consider is the room. Assuming you have this, tag all of the cables and wires and take a picture so you can reconnect them in the same location making certain of which wire went to the respective positive and negative terminals of each battery. Remove the old batteries. Separate your new batteries into two pairs and set one pair aside for the moment. Next, just dealing with one pair connect one post of each of the two batteries together, positive post to negative post leaving the other post open. Tag the terminals you just used and do not attach any other cables or wires to them. Set this pair aside and do the same with the other pair. Now you have two pairs, each with one positive and one negative terminal unused. Install the batteries and treat each pair as if they were one of the original batteries with two open terminals with the positive and negative terminals oriented the same as the original battery. Reinstall the cables as per the way you removed them.

While that is a great visual and makes sense, I would hate to try to "install" 2-6V batteries that were already connected together...those suckers are HEAVY!

This might be the thread you're referring to: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f23/batte...de-217250.html
