Adjust Water Heater
Hello, I'm a newbie full timer in a Thor 34K Daybreak motor home. One thing I've noticed since moving onto the rig is that the water temperature is very hot, even scorching.
Does anyone know how to adjust the water heater temperature? What is the optimum temp for someone living in the Pacific NW (temps in the 30s and 40s)? Should this be done by a professional? I was told when I picked up my rig never to monkey with the water heater. But the guy that toured its operation with us was a bit of a jerk so I don't trust everything he told us.

There may be some, but I have never seen an RV water heater with any kind of temperature adjustment.

I use the cold water to adjust temperature. This allows you to use less hot water and thereby extend the amount available, especially for showers.

If it's a standard Atwood or Suburban you have no temp adjustment. Just less hot and more cold.

To adjust the temp turn the cold on first then add the hot water. This will make your hot water last longer in a shower.

The water heater is set to produce the hottest water so you won't run out as fast. You could buy new temperature limiters to lower the temperature, but there's no dial or adjustment on the tank. You could change out faucets to a single handle version if you have separate hot and cold valves.

The water heaters made in the last dozen years all have a fixed 140 degree thermostat. For some Atwood heater models there is an adjustable thermostat available - here is one of several sources:

If you are getting scorching hot water from the tap, your water heater is probably very near by. Others have the opposite problem - the heater is far away and the water cools off a lot by the time it reaches the shower or faucet.
The best solution has already been suggested by others - use a faucet that mixes in cold water to a single tap. Better yet, a single lever faucet that lets you easily adjust on the fly.

With a limited amount of hot water, not like your 30 to 50 gallon water heater at home, you want the water pretty hot and mix with cold for the desired temperature.
As per the post above, you can add an after market adjustable temperature switch.

Aqua-hot systems have an adjustable mixing valve to control hot water temp.
