after 10 days im getting flys when I flush toilet

This is my longest run so far. . and there should only be about 1/3 black..

I guess there is a filter or diverter on roof vent that needs checking? ?

I was just gonna close the lid before flushing until I get it sorted out.

The critters are coming down the vent pipe. You could put a piece of screen over it and the gray vent.

If you are hooked up to a CG sewer, you are keeping the black tank valve closed aren't you?

This was my thought too. If you leave the black and gray valves open when hooked up to CG sewer, you allow what ever is down in their sewer to come up into your rv.

First...I'm not an expert so I'm just tossing out some thoughts...

Without getting into the debate of whether or not to keep the gray valve open...flies in the toilet would not be coming through the gray tank.

I had never thought about the vent being a source of sewer flies as Rich suggested. Nice piece of info to stuff away for future use.

Assuming you aren't keeping the black tank valve open...

First try filling the black tank until it is full a couple times and flushing the suckers out. It might work.

You could consider some kind of pesticide treatment in the tank. This could kill adult flies but I don't know about how effective they would be for larvae.

If the above doesn't cure the problem then you might have larvae embedded in the "muck". Then you need to get rid of the muck. As a full timer that doesn't work for us because we "muck" it every day. If you are a part timer then perhaps some kinds of treatments with stuff to break it down and flush it out can help. Finally, you could just have a power wash of your tanks.

I'm curious to know what type of chemical you are using in your tank, if any.

You can also use bath salts in the tank. just fill it up with water and drive to your next stop then empty it. It is important to keep the drain valves closed on the black tanks and to keep at least 5 gallons or so of water in them between emptying them. You don't want the toilet tissue to dry up in there. Another trick is to dump the Ice cubes into the toilet when you go to leave after you dump it, this will help beat the crap out of the crap and then it melts and helps keep it wet.

Sounds like you may have a case of what is called “sewer flies”. They are pesky and very hard to get rid of. They are usually found in sinks not toilets. But on a motorhome I guess they could be in either. They live in the slim buildup on the inside of the drain lines between the sink bowl and the water trap. Not sure how they get their but you can have them in highly used sinks or seldom used sinks. We developed a case of them in our home and have been fighting for about a two months to get rid of them. We have tried all sorts of home remedies and now on to professional services and nothing seems to work. If that is what you have good luck with getting rid of them.

If you think they are coming in from the be taking on the roof, put some women's stocking over the vent. Won't take long for the to be gone and you've prevented others coming in.

Super idea for all vents. Sometimes the best things are the simple ones. Thanks.
