I don’t know about the best kind of air compressor, but the best one for my money was a Porter Cable CMB15. It is an AC powered 150 psi compressor with a cut in pressure of 120 psi. It is also light and fairly quiet. I coupled it with a 25’ polyurethane air hose by Flexeel and a Milton S506 dual head inflation/gauge.

I bought it all thru amazon.com.

The air hose and inflation/gauge really complete the package. The hose is extremely flexible and so far pretty tough. The gauge is accurate enough for my purposes (compared against 3 other gauges that I owned) and really makes topping off a tire a short task.

My only complaint is that the air connection comes off of the side of the compressor. I wanted added a quick disconnect here, but nothing would protect it from damage.

Handy 150 PSI Compressor

First off - congratulations on understanding the need. Lots of input but based on personal experience - get one. Trying to find some place to air up a tire when traveling is at best dicey and at worst impossible. Having an on board way of airing up a tire (IMO) is a necessity.

I looked at length, read lots and settle on the this one:

Does a nice job and also picked up a clamp on air chuck like this:

Finished it off with a digital pressure gauge.

Total price about $120. Takes up very little space and is adjustable (PS: use the adjustable as a rough guide - off by about 10 PSI low).

Almost forgot. I've used it help blow out lines prior to winterizing. Be sure to adjust the PSI down to 25 PSI or there abouts. Also check with your service folks. Some newer coach have seens that can blown if not held open.

Mine is a Crafstman. Here are the considrations:

1: Avoid the low cost units.. (I owned about 4 of those before I wised up) they work great for a short time. Buy from an ESTABLISHED firm like Sears or Porter-Cable or some such.

2: 150 PSI minimum

3: Tank type.. at least 3-4 gallons Not a tankless (Black And Decker Air Sation is an example of thankless)

Tankless are good for many things (Car tires, Beach balls) but not for Motor home/Truck tires.

That's about all I can say.

I use powertank.com CO2. Pricey to buy, but tops off super fast. Use it on all my vehicles. I would never go back to a compressor.

Craftsman AirBoss™ 1.2 Gallon Oil-less Air Compressor and Hose Kit

I like this one. Looks like the Fini above. It’s not too loud, charges to max psi fairly quickly (135 psi), only 20 lbs it's compact & easy to store and it looks good. I'd buy it again. I paid $150, it’s now $125.

Craftsman 1.2 Gallon air compressor, 1.8 SCFM @ 90 PSI
73 decibels, 120 Volt electric motor,
110 PSI to 135 PSI in only 15 seconds.

I have the Viair also, wirks great and no tank so the compressor only runs when needed. It's great.
