Good morning,

Was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem and if so what
was the fix. I have a 2001 Winnebago Journey pusher and twice now
the front pressure gauge goes crazy. The gauge will read 120lbs of
pressure then go to 0 and bounce back. Was leaving the track this past
Sunday and when I started the RV the front gauge would not register any
air pressure, then once I moved the RV it seemed fine. Driving down the
road the alarm would go off and the gauge would go to 0 and back to 120.

Did this for about twenty minutes and then things were fine the rest of the way home. Started the RV the next morning and it did the same thing
again for about a minute and it settled down. Does it sound like the gauge
is acting up or something else may be causing it? Brakes seemed fine all
along.

I owned a 2001 Journey had similar issues with the air gages and the speedometer and tach. I was under warranty at the time I took the rig to freightliner and the problem was an electrical connection in the harness underneath the coach it was repaired and that was that.

Sometimes, and I had it happen to my 2008, the last person to work under the dash did not "click" the harness connector in tight. Reach up and give a good squeeze or push on each harness connector under the dash.

However, the air pressure gauges have a 1/4 inch or smaller hose going to each gauge (if more than one). It is possible that age has taken a toll on the hose. It could be loose at the fitting, or have a small crack in it. Once you start to move it could change the attitude of the hose and the pressure could keep it like that until the next time. Listen very closely for escaping air. Feel very gently where the hoses connect at all points and inspect the hoses if possible.

Other than that it may be time for a manufacturer repair center and have it fixed.

What is really strange is yesterday when I started the RV up to go dump the tanks the gauge was acting up. It did this for a few minutes and once
it quiets down after watching it go from 0 to 120 and back it was good the rest of the trip. Seems like when you first start out is when it acts up.
I will check the lines to see if they are loose or cracked.

If you have a Freightliner chassis do a search in the forums for VDC repair that might solve your issue. Good luck.

Check to see if your air pressure gage is operated by the small plastic tube or is it operated by a wire. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I seem to remember having to replace a sending unit on a air tank. Like a oil pressure sending unit type. Seems the sending unit was all corroded. Now maybe I'll wake up in the middle of tonight and remember more, so stay tuned.

Randy,

Just FYI, the VDC repair was what fixed the problem. Not sure of the persons name but someone put out a PDF file with pictures and instructions on how to fix the cold solder on the VDC board. That was
what the problem was. Apparantly, Freightliner had a known problem from
1999-2001 with a cold solder joint on that board.

Thanks for responding with the fix. I'll have to add this to my list of problems and repairs.
