Allegro Breeze Navistar Diesel
I have been looking at used tiffin allegro breeze coaches because of its size and spacious living area for the two of us as we start retirement and want to fish the west... I have seen comments on the Navistar pusher regarding emission issues and being frequently in the shop for check engine lights related to emissions. I see many posted for sale with 40k mile so I assume they do get around but would appreciate some feedback before I buy something that is in for service on every trip...
Thanks for you time...

I would steer clear of the Navistar Maxxforce and look for a coach with a cummins, even a 340hp ISB will perform better in every way, less maint, renew repairs and will outlast you if properly maintained. This is one of the reasons I abandoned looking at the smaller Tiffin DPs.

Ive spent a lot of time looking at countless coaches. I can find nearly nothing in that size range (32’ and under) that I would consider at this point.
There are a very few older 32’ “orphan coaches” (Country coach or Foretravel, and maybe Alpine) but they have their drawbacks too - primarily handling issues due too much weight in the rear with too short a wheel base. We had couple E-one fire engines like that - really unpleasant handling.
So I’m looking at the 33-35’ range which opens up some more possibilities. I’m stuck on Newmar so this means Ventana or New Aire and I’ve had to up my budget considerably. The Tiffins with Cummins power seem to start at 33’ with the Alegro RED. Also Winnebego Forza 34’.
I drove a 34’ Country Coach and loved it but it was cat powered (400hp C7) and the bedroom was noisy and hot after just a couple miles, and I want the bedroom usable under way. I considered it for a while but I want to avoid Cat power for a number of reasons too.

Thanks and I have been looking at coaches up to 36 ft and found several Cunmins units.. seem the Winnie Journey is a good option with a much better floor plan than the Forza... funny that you mentioned the excessive overhang resulting in the lack of handling since I have always felt from a layman's perspective some of these coaches appear to have a lot of overhang from the rear axle.. any guidance on this...

Just for info, Tiffin started using the Cummins ISV 275 in the Breeze starting in 2016.

I would also stay away from the Navistar engine. Too many issues as noted on various forums. If you really like the Breeze, from Tiffin, they do have the Cummins at 270 - 275 HP and have just started with putting the 340 hp Cummins in Breezes now (which is a whole lot better, I think). Lot of used Breezes on the market with the Cummins engine. Here is a 2018 Breeze at local Tiffin dealer: https://www.beavercoachsales.com/Pre...78369?ref=list

Well if your in that market you might look at the Ventana coaches - 34’ Coaches with 360hp Cummins, Alison 3000 trans (LE models are 340 and MH2500 trans) . I’m looking at everything 2008 and later up to,and including ordering new. Lots to consider but I’m sold on Newmar quality.
Also pushing the budget a bit more is the New Aire line and as of 2020 they have 3 models that are 35’ and 450/1250 Cummins ISM powered. If you are going to tow heavy that would be one to consider. Also it’s not just overhang but weight distribution- with a heavy 400hp Cat behind the rear axle on a short coach you get into porpoising.

This post might be of interest to potential Allegro Breeze owners:
Evolution of the Breeze
I should think that if the MaxxForce engines in the 2011-15 Breezes were a problem then the selling prices would be depressed, as people would be dumping them. The opposite appears true- Breeze asking prices are at or above what one might expect.

Foretravel 34 ft, from 97 to 2001 had cummins ISC 300 to 350 hp. 2002 to 2005 were ISL 400 hp. Great handling little coaches, had a 2000 that handled almost like a 40 footer. Not many made though.

Not all Maxxforce engines are terrible 2010-11 worse later years better. That being said the Cummins equipped Breeze would be better

There’s a lot of reasons to love a Foretravel. Beautiful coaches. Ive driven a similar ‘07 34’ 400hp Country Coach, and really enjoyed the handling and general drivability, but didn’t want cat power. If it were Cummins I’d probably have bought it.
