Allison transmission

2008 Fleetwood Excursion DP. 40 ft with 6 speed Allison. What is the economy button for, how does it work. And when should I use it? Lastly is it worth using? Luv this combo and we are having great trips around the states. Thx for any comments

The economy mode restricts downshifting by about 200 RPM. It is useful in flat land driving where only the occasional overpass or slight grade is encountered. By restricting downshifts, when it's not really needed, it is supposed to save a little fuel.

I use mine but I don't know why. I can't see any difference in fuel, just a slight difference in the 6th to 5th downshift on a uphill grade.

See: RV Tech Library - Allison Transmission Keypad Operation
Note: your keypad my be diffent but the mode function will be the same.
I use mine all the time except when climbing long grades and when traveling in "rolling hill" terrain.

Rolling hills is where it is supposed to be used! That's where it does the most good.

The only time I take mine out of economy mode is when I need maximum acceleration (merging onto freeway). Normal mode allows slightly higher RPM's before shifting.

If left in normal mode, mine will "hunt" the correct gear on small hills, shifting between 5 and 6 and back. Economy mode stops the hunting.
