Animal Eating Tire

Not sure where to post this...we keep our RV next to a wildlife preserve in S Florida. Recently I noticed that our sewer hose fitting had been gnawed almost in half and that nearby something had eaten a golf-ball sized chunk out of our tire. The site manager has put down another trap but anything else we might do. I'm going to retract the sewer hose when we're not there, but is there anything I can do about the tires?

The joy of RVing: every day brings a new conundrum!

What is he going to use to bait the trap? A small dog? You probably don't need your Audubon guidebook to the fauna of S Florida to solve this one.

Wow! I’ve heard of a tire biting dog, but this may be over the top. Advice from me is to not stand in one place to long.

When we were last at a state park in Florida there were signs warning that the vultures will peck holes in your tires.

Without knowing the pest, how to treat remains a mystery.

Stealth......

Dark night, lawn chair, Bright flashlight and a deterrent of your choosing

*Side note......we never leave sewer hose out, birds peck holes, critters can crawl up from sewer, unsightly etc
Dump/stow it after rinsing

In Everglades National Park. the Black Vultures have developed a taste for rubber. They've been eating windshield wiper blades and the rubber seals around windows, but I've never heard of them feasting on tires.

The problem with the vultures has become so bad, that at the parking area of the Royal Palm visitor center, there is a large bin filled with tarps and bungee cords so that the visitors can protect their vehicles. Before the tarps were put out, I lost one wiper blade and had significant damage to the driver side window seal.

Wow, I never knew there were that many threats to the RV from wildlife! :-)

You're right about the sewer hose. It's safely stowed away and I now have a spare fitting just in case.
