Anyone install their own Electric Fireplace?

We had a fireplace in a 5er we had and absolutely loved it! Sure wish there was some place we could put one in the MH.

Personally, I would never put one in a place where the slide would cover it when in travel position! Things happen! JMHO

Nothing really is at risk...electric fireplaces are 110VAC only. Pull the shore power to drive away and it is dead.


Our inverter would pop a fuse if the Fireplace was inadvertently left on.
And if running the gennie, we would be there to notice any light or heat with the Fireplace not totally hidden.


Of course there are other options...if your RV can carry the weight, firewood supply, etc.

Make sure to take some pictures, my wife wants to do this mod also just haven't found the right fireplace and right location, I was thinking about same spot as you but haven't measured wall depth yet to determine size of fireplace to install.

I will. I bought a 29" wide x 21" high x 6" dp off evilbay.. for $130 (new).
everywhere I looked (lowes, home depot, etc) wanted $400+

The fireplace is 110VAC only, has 4 heat settings (cool, low, med, high) and 7 light settings with a remote (can be used as a night light) using only 2 small bulbs.
The TV is a swapped bigger unit from OEM too and is on a standard swivel mount (the removable top strap is just for extra safety).

This design has only 1 moving part for the "flame effect lighting" and does not make any noise with driving movement.

About requiring a separate breaker...our fireplace is 1500Watts total when on high including the fan and lights on the highest setting. We had no need to run a separate breaker and circuit for our set-up.

And we rarely run it on high, so it is typically consuming much less than that amount of juice.

The best things about the electric heat is that when it is on the shore tie it's free heat (most often free juice in campgrounds) - the instant-on in the morning to take the chill off the salon - and that it can replace the need to run the furnace during cool evenings.

You did a nice job with yours. And, thanks to your link, I picked up a couple of other trick mods from the Outlaw mod thread... went through all 72 pages! I have a thread here that is similar but only 2 pages long.
Now I have to get to work!

Thanks and Yes, there are 4 hinges on one side and a pin that supports the door when closed on the other side.

I did it last winter and it was my first RV project. Could not have done it without the ideals I got from reading this forum. In fact not sure how anyone owns an RV without being plugged into IRV2 (or other similar forums).
