Thank you, thank you for your concern! I would never tighten set screws or poke around in a transfer box without killing the power. I did however, CAREFULLY touch the voltmeter probes to the incoming & outgoing lugs to be sure the transfer switch was not passing power out of it. I have no wish to be pushing up

Most of the circuits on our rigs are de-energized when the shore power is unplugged, the battery switches are shut off, the inverter is shut off, and the generator is not running.
Capacitors store energy and can be a shocking experience, but most often are found in the Roof AC units of our rigs.
You would be smart to test for presence of voltage before handling wires etc.
But you obviously already know that.
All that said, "when in doubt, don't!"

Update on the transfer switch
So, I took the MH to a local repair shop. Told them I had diagnosed the transfer switch NOT passing power thru it. Then, the next day I get a call from them, "the transfer switch is working fine". I say WHAT?? Yes, it is working... He said I have cycled it numerous times on 30 & 15 amp. He added the AC units as a load and all worked fine. I am baffled as to what happened. I gladly paid the $59 labor fee and came home. Plugged into my 15 amp service and all is "hunky-doory". Now we are gonna spend some of the saved money on getting the audio/visual system ALL working well.

Sorry it took so long to update again. So the transfer switch failed again once we were at home (no surprise). I did discover if I ran the genny (while still plugged in) that the incoming shore power would stay on when I turned the Genny off. Too much uncertainty in that scenario. So, not only did we replace the transfer switch, but also upgraded to a Progressive Ind. EMS. We went with the unit that has the readout there on the unit. (EMS-LCHW50) I can see exactly what is happening right while I am there near the pedestal.
