Hi, I'm pretty new to RV'ing but when we took our last overnighter it was beginning to get our fall cool down here in the PNW and I was not impressed with the heat output on elec. so went over to the diesel option.

I am in southern Alabama. It is currently 30 degrees outside. I tried to use only AC on my aqua hot. It worked for a while but the electric element could not keep the boiler tank hot enough and the low temp cut off engaged. When this happens the heating loops turn off. I had to switch on the diesel and all is well. I have heard that AC will only work to about 45 degrees outside.

Varies with the model of the Aqua Hot. Most have a single heating element so are somewhat equivalent to a portable heater. Others have dual elements and can provide sufficient heat. Mine has a single element and provides enough for the bedroom loop but not both loops.

I usually run the Aqua Hot on electric at night with the rear thermostat on, front thermostat off. In the morning, I turn on the diesel and the front thermostat. Also have plenty of hot water for showers.

Good luck,

We usually use electric until overnight temps expected to be below 28 or so OR if we are actually using the coach and it's going to below about 35, since the heat pumps won't work at those temps. We often get by with heated floors and fireplace only with the aqua hot set at about 65 degrees. We are now in Ocala FL area and it's chillier than expected. We awoke this morning and it was about 67 and the outside had gotten down to about 40 overnight.

We live in the Asheville NC area and don't even winterize because we like to use the coach year round and we just set the aquahot up and forget it.

The electric side does well for keeping water hot until you take a long shower. If you want to heat the coach with the aquahot, turn on the diesel. If your coach has heat pumps for the AC units, the electric side of the thermostat will run those. They will work well as long as outside temps are above 40-45 degrees. The aquahot uses very little diesel to run. I ran it all winter long at lower settings to keep the wet bay warm and the coach above 40
in Oregon on less than 1/4 tank.
