Atwood/Dometic Water Heater Regulator Adjustment

Anyone know how to adjust the propane regulator on an Atwood 10 gallon water heater?
I travel frequently into the Colorado Rockies where it's 7,000 to 8,000+ above sea level. My water heater will fire, run for a few seconds, then shut off. Then re-fire, run and shut off. Everything has been replaced except the board.

But - If I open the bay door and open the water heater cover, it will run as designed forever. Close everything up and the problem returns.

Atwood/Dometic tech says their water heaters are designed to operated from sea level up to 6,000 feet without adjusting the regulator as the altitude air is too thin above 6,000 feet - take it to an Atwood approved service to have it adjusted.
Anyone know how to adjust? I can't take it into service every time I want to return to less than 6,000 feet.

On most there is a slide adjustment held by a set screw on the burn / pilot light side of the regulator. That’s the only adjustment that you should have to change.

Usually too much air in mix gives trouble . You need give more air\ open mix some to get more of a jet sound. The flame sense rod might need to be a little closer to flame Check for spider webs in mix tube.
