Auto step

I have a autostep that is working sporatically and when it does come out it will only go back in about 2/3 of the way. Sometimes it works fine but seems to hang up more often now. Anyone have solution or the same issue ?

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I would give the mechanism a good spraying with silicone lubricant (NOT WD40)

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

What are you calling Lube? Regular WD40 is Not a good line. One of the best is Bowshield T9.
Next, have you done a close inspection on the linkage to make sure its clean and not bent?

malfunctioning stairs

I had the same problem years ago and lube did nothing. Look under and you will see a round regular(not sure if that's the correct name) which I changed. I looked on online of the company who made the stairs and saw all the parts that make up the stairs and mechanics. It was the only electrical part that regulates how far it needs to go out. Its been likely 8 years since I changed it and its working properly.

Over 15years I repaired many, many steps. The steps call for lubing every thirty days. This is true if used in a bus service maybe. They do have to be kept clean and lubed, though. I use WD40 to clean the old crap off and then use spray lube. If it is a binding problem, you can listen for the motor to run and then you will hear the controller shut off the power, before the steps are stowed. . The second biggest problem is the motor. There are plastic marbles in the motor that can break up and cause your problem. If this is happening, you will hear the motor run after the steps are partially closed and the steps will not be moving. Also a weak motor will cause this. Last is gears. If you have a broken gear the step will not retract or extend correctly. One last thing. You must get under the steps and lube all pivot points. Most can not be seen from the top.

Now, keep the mechanism cleaned and lubricated at least twice per year and you will save yourself this aggravation in the future.
