Automatic Generator Start Questions

Our '99 American Dream has at some point been upgraded to a Magnum ME 2512 Inverter Charger with the ME-RC remote control. I would like to add the automatic generator start module. I have the Onan Quiet Diesel (don't have model number handy). My questions are, do people with AGS like the feature, and do you use it ? Also, has anyone installed the AGS-N module ? It looks pretty straight forward on the install from the instructions. Thanks in advance !

I have an onan ec30 auto gen start and use it whenever I stay off hook up. It takes the stress out of watching battery voltage and keeps the coach cool when parked by auto starting and running the air conditioners if you have pets, I feel it's a must have.

I have it, and have never needed it so I have never used it. It kinda worries my that my genset might start whenever it wants....

AGS is a great help.

Quiet hours shutdown so you don't disturb the neighbors.
Automatically start and stop charging the coach batteries.
Startup to allow the A/Cs to run in hot weather so Fido doesn't bake.

I'd make it mandatory!

I turn ours on when we leave on a trip, but it doesn't get used much.
Good piece of mind when it's hot, and we leave the puppy in the coach to go to a restaurant, or shopping.

I agree. We never boondock and have never needed it. I did leave it on for the first few years, until one day when our house batteries needed replacing, i pulled into a gas station to fuel, shut off the engine, and on comes the generator right next to gas pumps. Now I leave it off.

Upgrade your remote to the ME-ARC50 and you’ll get more control over your inverter and it’s settings plus you’ll be able to add the ME- BMK. It’s a simple plug ‘n play change out.

Not just for boondocking. The auto gen will help keep the pets cool even if in a campground and it loses power.

All AGS have safety features that disables AGS once you start or move the coach. If your unit stays in AGS mode once you move, that is a safety concern.

I wouldn't be without it. Use it to turn on the AC when we are out of the coach and the coach gets warm so the dog is fine, when we boondock overnight while travelling, use it to run the genset as required to keep the battery bank charged for the res fridge, on cooler evenings use it to run the heat pump as required. If you have never had it, you likely wouldn't miss it but once you have it , it will increase your enjoyment of the coach. Go for it!

They do? First I have heard about it. Could you explain the logic behind this?

I thought the same thing.

Pretty sure I don't have to re 'enable' mine, after a day of travelling.

My Prior RV and my current one turn off the auto generator start with a key cycle.

To the OP Yes it is a nice option to have and I use mine quite often.
