automatic stair problems
Hi-Not sure if I'm at the right place...Have a 2002 Windsong 32' and my auto. stairs are intermittent. No rhyme or reason why they decide to work, or not. Anyone have any thoughts? Wife took a leap of faith once but doesn't like leaping in the rig.
Thanks

Disconnect the batteries and climb under the steps and look for poor wiring technique. Often the manufacturer will leave wires hanging loose that will get snagged by road gators and the like.
Disconnect the connector and spray with contact cleaner. Zip tie all the wires up to the frame and vinyl tape any connectors.
Just a thought.

They work on amperage applied through a controller. If they are not lubricated well they may operate randomly in or out. If they are "jumping " then probably a plastic drive plug problem, not a real big deal, check the wires and lube all the pivots with a liquid spray lube and re-post results. Enough help here to get you fixed up.

also check the magnets on the door for being loose or excessive gap.

When did this start? Did the stairs ever work correctly for you?

Do you leave them in automatic mode all the time? The pivots can wear and/or dry out if the steps go out/in every time the door is used.

Watch the hight of those curbs.
Any time I see a thread that pertains to the electoral step I cant help but want to tell them about my miss hap that happened to my step.
To make a long store short when ever you fine yourself parking adjacent to a concrete curb be sure that you are a few feet away from it because all concrete curbs are not always 6" high, their are some that are 8" high and what happened to me was that when I got to close to the curb and opened up my door the step went out and hit the curb and broke the arm that extended the step.
Now when it came time to order another extension arm the Co. would only sell you the who package not just the arm.$$$
I was able to fine one in a R.V. Supply store after I got back home and until then a good bungee cord held it up in place.
Just a thought.

Mine was doing that so last week I replaced the motor, gear box, magnet switch and controller.
They come as a updated package with a higher torque motor and that does not cost that much. Put them in myself no big deal.
I bought them from PPL Motor Homes for $202.14.
If the magnet was out of place they would stay extended so it is not that.
But make sure you replace the magnet switch as the new one works backwards of the old ones.
