Awning Ratchet locking lever

I posted this under general discussion but did not receive any replies so I will try here. If anyone has anything to share, please do ......

OK .... I've performed forum searches but my problem doesn't seem to come up.

Older A&E awning (13 years) on a Damon MotorHome. My problem is the POSITION of the roll up/roll down lever. When rolled up, in my experience with all awnings one used the extender rod to hook and pull down the lever. My problem is the my lever doesn't follow this rule. When closed the lever is pretty much at the bottom of the roller. About 6 o'clock. I have to push up and towards the side of the coach to set the lever to the roll down position. The problem is there isn't enough room to fully move the lever to the proper position. The lever hits the side of the coach. While I can pull the awning down, the mechanism seems to be in a free wheeling mode (no ratcheting) and when extended I need to move to the latch lever end to fulling engage the lever in the roll down position so the awning locks in the extended position. With the awning extended the lever is approximately at the 3 o'clock position on the roller tube. It seems the only way to change it is to drill out the rivets to rotate the end cap, then redo the rivets. I really wonder how things got out of whack????

Any ideas???

H Sarge! I would suggest that you get the model number of the awning off the tube and Google it for an owner's manual. You could also call the manufacturer, but you can probably answer your question from the manual.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

On my Carefree awning it was relatively easy to rotate the end cap 1/4 to 1/2 turn and relocate the position of the lever without removing the rivets.
Check the A&E owner's manual, or look on line for directions for winding the awning spring.
