I lived for 4 years without a ladder and finally broke down and installed a permanent one, I've used many times. They are only a $100. Not hard to install.

PITA? Not familar with that acronym. I have been told by a lot of people that I might not want to mess with the patio awning. But if the slide out might be damaged by not having the awning, I would want to install one. However, I wouldn't mind getting up there and sweeping it off before pulling it back in.

I guess it depends on the height of your RV ... a good extension ladder is more sturdy than the attached ladder but lacks the upper loop/grab handles when you actually get on the roof.

As for awnings ... I can't live without them ... cuts inside temp dramatically here in Florida.

That's entierly possible. You can go to the Winnebago site and access the brochure for the 2000 Adventurer. Near the back of the publication there's a chart listing the standard and optional items.

I stand corrected in stating the patio awning was standard. It didn't become a standard item until 2001

I had one on the bedroom slide rip. Both ends closes to the RV were attached but the center was ripped and just made a funnel and hard rain over whelmed the gaskets. Cheap and easy to replace.

Nope, no slide covers on my 2000 DSDP and don't want them. In 3yrs. of fulltiming I've probably had to get out my ladder to clean off the slides B-4 we hit the road a dozen times. Never wanted to worry about them in strong winds either..

We don't use our main awning very often, but don't think I would want a rig without one.

I would never have any kind of RV without slide toppers! Its a PITA to get up there and sweep off the top of the slide before retracting it!

I would consider the ladder an essential item also. It would take a pretty tall step-ladder to be able to safely climb up on the roof so it would take up a lot of storage space. I don't think a permanent ladder would be very expensive so I would definitely have that done.
