Bad Diesel Fuel from Pilot

Gas and/or fuel providers get their gas/fuel from the same nearest pipeline terminal. Its all the same no matter where you fill up..... Walmart, Costgo, Shell, Chevron, Flying J, Loves, etc. Also nowadays all will have fuel filters on the pumps.

Over the years I have driven RVs with three different gas engines 4 different diesel engines, filled up at just about every station known to man. I have never got bad fuel, and have never noticed any difference in power or fuel mileage, and this includes using mixtures of bio diesel and ethanol.

**** happens....sometimes a bad load of gas can be off loaded anywhere, any place.
Your always a the mercy of whats coming from the hose.
I use to fuel from the same local station in my home town, always same pump, never a single issue.
Friend of mine uses the same station, pump....and one day got gasoline mixed with something, major issues followed.
Like i said you never know...

It is hard to believe anyone can get bad fuel at a Pilot. They sell thousands of gallons per day of fuel. I used Flying J exclusively for years before Pilot took them over and Never had an Issue. I have sat at one location and watch ten tankers per day or more unload their fuel.

Dont know if there is any difference in most fuels be it gas or diesel. Have bought diesel at Pilot bunches both when driving truck and rv and never once had an issue, I did how ever buy fuel once at a large convenience store near DC while hauling cars and got some bad fuel, stopped at several places , got new filters and was told by anl ole trucker , to never buy fuel other than a truck stop because the small stations sometimes have their fuel in the tank much longer because they simply dont sell it a lot which could cause water contamination ..that is exactly what happened to me . Big truck stops replenish their tanks quite often so less chance for water. I wonder if Mingus drove in the same conditions , same loads , same roads , level or hilly when making the comparison between the two..

Sorry I meant fuel mileage. I know it seems hard to believe, but with both of my Dodges the got lousy mileage at Love's and Pilot. By the way, we see a lot of Pilot and ove's tankers in Northern AZ, and only saw them delivering to their respective stations. So much for everybody uses the same.

Pilot & Love’s deliver only to their own outlets but they pick up @ the same distributors w/everyone else. All comes from the same hole in the ground.

Don't conflate the logo on the delivery truck with the refiner of the fuel. Pilot and Loves operate (or lease) their own delivery tankers in some parts of the USA. Refining is a geo-centric operation and you can pretty much bet that all the diesel or gasoline in a give area comes from the same fracking towers no matter the name on the tanker or the retail pump.

Here is what bad gas looks like. This is what we got when buying gas in Ogallala, NE back a few years ago. This was in a car and not the motorhome. We got about 3 miles from the station and car died. Had it towed where the guy sucked all the gas out of the tank, replaced the spark plugs put an additive in the tank and refilled it.


The place where we bought the gas paid for the tow, and repairs and the refill.

A few months ago I stopped at a Loves in Northern California thinking truck-stop = good diesel. There was big sign on the pump that said #2 diesel. I didn't see any signs with the usual large print that says "May contain up to x% biodiesel. Nor was there a sign that said B100. However there was another sticker on the pump with lots of writing that said in small print somewhere near the middle of the paragraph that it was 100% biodiesel, or something to that effect. It would be easy to miss this warning. This was at the car pumps.

If you're getting 100% biodiesel your mileage will be much worse, not half, but much worse, and modern diesels with DPF's shouldn't run more than B5 - B20 depending on what you have.

Perhaps one of you who buys from these Loves or Pilot can look for this label and check my memory on what it says. I buy from Chevron, Mobil, and occasionally Costco.

We used to RV with a guy who drove a tanker for Rotten Robbie - he always told us that when he got in line to fill his load, he was in the same line as the Shell, Texaco, Chevron, and independent drivers. The ONLY difference in the load was what additives the driver added...
