I have a 2003 Fleetwood Discover. Recently my rear d/s hydraulic jack has been giving me trouble but before I get under there and take it off I want to make sure the jack is the problem. It goes up and down fine from the control panel with no load but as soon as it goes to the point where it will lift the motor home it stops working and i just hear a low growling noise like oil is just bypassing a seal or valve or something like that. The jack itself isn't leaking at all which leads me to believe the seals are fine in it and maybe its a valve somewhere but im no expert so thats why Im asking you guys. Is there a way to test if the valve are all working fine? I'm not sure the brand because it doesnt say anything on the jack itself so i cant call the company. What do you guys think? thanks

I've got 1999 discovery with the d/s jack problem but mine leak a little, and last Saturday I was putting the jack up for travel and a red light on the control was telling me the jack were down, but I found out I was low of a quart of dex tramsy fluid, fill it up and solve for now, but later on will have to fix the leak. good luck and I will follow your post.

Your jacks are most likely Power Gear. The valves are located on top of the fluid reervoir which is probably located in the curb side far back compartment. You can check for fluid leaks by inspecting the valve body to see if there is any wet fluid there. If not your problem might be the reservoir is low enough on fluid that you are hearing air in the system. To check this, retract the jacks until they are completely up. Then remove the fill plug on the side of the regulator. It is the plug that doesn't have wires going into it. If the fluid level is not up to the bottom of the plug hole, fill the reservoir with the recommended fluid. Run the jscks all the way down, then retract them . This should remove any air in the system. You may have to do this a couple of times. Hope this fixes the problem.

Check your leaking jacks to see if there is a grease zerk on the bottom of the main jack cylinder close to the spring. If there is shoot some grease into that fitting. It is designed to lubricate the cylinder seal. This has stopped many jack leaks in the past. If you don't have a zerk, try lubricating the cylinder with spray liquid Silicone and raise and lower the jack a few time to try to lube the jack seal. Good luck.
