Baggage Door Latches

A few days ago one of my bagage door latches of my Winnebago Brave 33V broke. I have seen I could buy a spare latch at Camping World. Could anybody explain me how to install?

I would remove all of mine and take them apart to clean and grease them, they tend to pick up water and dirt, their so close to the road.

You have to remove the screws from the back/inside the door. If the latch is in fact broken and still locked, you will have to finangle a way to push the latch open from beneath the door, usually can be done with a screw driver.

I suspect wimjanssen is talking about the slide bolt, which comes out the side of the compartment door. The plastic piece breaks off sometimes. It is pretty easy to replace if you first buy a pop-rivet gun and the right size pop-rivets. You drill out the existing rivets, gently pull the slide bolt out the side of the door and unhook the rods to the latch mechanism. Hook up the new slide bolt and pop rivet in in place. When you have the right parts & equipment ahead of time, it is normally an easy 10 minute job.

latch re installation

Mine are the cheap simple door clips that you raise up to open, open door press to the wall and release the latch and it hooks onto the door.
Do not buy plastic ones. The sun makes them break in a year or so.
Replace with metal chrome.
I take the screws out and have to re drill the new latch holes so they will fit my current holes already in the body of the wall.
To prevent water from rain etc from working its way along thy screw and into the wall causing delam I silicone the screw before installing. Use hand not power screwdriver.
That is the lim it on my latch experience.

Dear Paul,

I bought a pop-rivet gun and the right sized pops and it worked very well, not in 10 minits but in 20!

Baggage Door Latch

We've broken the slide bolt latch that hold the baggage door closed. They have "nylon" looking slide bolts that seem to break over time. I know where to find the original equipment ones that are on the coach in the sig. but I recently saw some advertised that were metal slide bolts instead of the nylon material. Anyone have any idea where I can find the ones I saw that are metal???

Thanks
