Unhappy Ball Joints for an 2007 Spartan Chassis

I have a 2007 Newmar Kountry Star 3910 with the 400HP Cummins and Spartan Chassis.

It has 50,000 miles on it but I live in a state with annual inspections.

My mechanic says the ball joints have to come from Reyco and they need to rent a special tool to put them in.

Has anyone dealt with this?

I don't know enough to know what's legit and I cringe at the bill. All he said so far is it's going to be expensive.

Many people here have dealt with this....I did mine myself, Reyco has a special spanner tool to twist them out/in...but I didn't need it, I welded a nut to Ball joint and used a impact to run then out.
Ball joints were $1200 from Spartan, that's about the only place left to source them...
It's really not a bad job, a good tech that's got big tools should be able to do both sides in a day.

The link below has all the info, and you can search the Spartan chassis section here for more.

The balljoints were inspected and found loose requiring their replacement? Or was it that the boot was torn or missing and the inspector assumed the ball joint was bad?

Spartan will loan the spanner wrench with a deposit. If I end up replacing mine, I'll do like Mackwrench did and weld a good sized nut on and use an air impact to break them loose and spin them out. The heat from the welder can't hurt either.

Meames1 has a post where the joints can be gotten cheaper by ordering the non kit price....

One can add grease fittings to the old balljoints and get them lubed up.

There are aftermarket boots that can be put on without replacing the ball joint. (look for a Wunderlodge balljoint ebay ad).

I will be concocting something up to cover my ball joints. I already added the grease fittings and pump them up before each substantial trip.
