Basement compartment door broke

My compartment door on the front passenger side will not open. Pretty sure the latch has broke or come loose somewhere. Question is, how do I get it open? There is no compartment adjacent to it. It is between entry door and front of RV.

That happened to me on my Bounder. I opened another door to study where the latch was etc. The latch was plastic so I pulled out the bottom of the door enough to slide a long screwdriver up to latch. I hit it with a hammer to drive the screwdriver in and break the latch. It worked and I got it opened. Now I carry that long screwdriver in a drawer inside the coach because it would be my luck the latch would break on the door I store my tools in !

I'm not saying yours is exactly like mine but this may help you if it is similar: As said above, look at slide bolt placement on another door. On mine, the slide bolt breaks in the middle and lets the bottom piece fall into the catch. I have to reach in from the end with my L shaped awning rod and push the bolt up while putting just enough pressure on the door to relieve the tension and then pull out when the bolt clears the catch.

I buy new locks and remove the bolt from the new and use it to replace in my existing handle so that my paint scheme and key locks remain the same.

If you get it open, I have found that mine have done this on occasion and it was always a loose screw internally. I put loctite on the screw and lube the mechanism the reinstall. Have had to do this on several doors thus far.

basically, I can pull the handle up but nothing happens. It's not locked. just feels like something inside the mechanism has come apart and not releasing the tab. I will try this evening to get a screwdriver in there and see if I can pop it loose. Thanks for all the reply's....
