Basement storage padding
I am a new RV'er and wondered what most of you do as far as putting something on the floor of your lower compartments to keep things from sliding around while on the road. I was thinking of putting some rubber carpet padding down there to keep things from moving so much. What have you found to be worthwhile? My coach is a 36' Monaco Class A gas.

Welcome to the forum. Some compartments I don't use anything and some I just have a piece of carpeting. Things seem to stay in place pretty well.

I wish I had that problem. We're full-timers, and I can definitely tell you there is NO room for anything to slide in our basement storage!
To keep smaller items from scattering, put them into plastic storage bins. Clear bins let you see what's inside. Lining the floor with carpet padding would be a good thing to try to keep the bins and larger items from sliding. Lowe's and Home Depot have anti-skid, anti-fatigue mats that go on cement floors to cushion your feet. Although carpet padding would be lower cost, the mats would be more durable.

Thank you John H and Paz for your reply. I think we will try to put some carpet padding in since we are going to be re-carpeting the coach and I was planning on using the clear plastic bins to put smaller items in and try to get better organized at the same time.
Can't wait to take the first big trip in it. So far we have only gone short distances to make sure there are no problems.

We have thick felt pads in the trays of our basement storage slide outs. Similar to carpet padding.

MisterJim,
I bought interlocking floor padding at Harbor freight. I'm very happy with it.

I don't use anything on mine. I don't care if things slide around a bit.
Plus it makes it easier to clean, I just remove all the stuff and wipe it down with a damp rag.

Never thought of it---my basement is pretty full and for things that are not self contained I put them in plastic see through containers. Every thing stays in place pretty much.

We have a American Coach and the bays are a white pebble grain fiberglass and very slick. We use a very thin carpet from Lowes and double stick tape. this is cheap and works very well for us and looks great. We've done four coaches with this.

We just got a 2005 Holiday Rambler Endeavor to replace our 1997. We have ordered 2 90" two-way sliding bin drawers for our large storage bins so that we can slide them out from either side of the coach and get to bikes and other stuff without straining backs and banging our heads. We had that rubber shelf lining stuff in our other coach and found it less than effective so we used the cheapy indoor-outdoor carpet to line our shelves and drawers in the interior and will use the same to cover the plywood on our basement storage drawers. We are waiting to get the hardware so hope it will work out well.

Our rig came with what appears to be automotive trunk carpeting on all surfaces.
It works fine unless you leave the bay door unlocked and take a sharp turn in your storage lot. I found it took quite awhile to pick up all the pieces of my CRT TV that was in that bay. :(
