Battery minders

I have one installed and today it started making a clicking sound. (Never notice that before) I use it to charge the chaise batteries off the generator. The voltage gage on the dash is reading 11 when gen and engine running at 65mph.. The gage drops to 10 when I turn my headlights on.

I had the alternator tested three weeks ago to prep for the trip we started today. It was fine. Could the battery minder be blocking the flow if it broke? Fuse?

We are stopped now so just trying to build a list of trouble shooting for the morning.

Sounds like maybe the alternator is not charging and a circuit breaker in your battery minder circuit is tripping from overload?

Does it crank normally?
What's the battery voltage at rest?
Does the voltage increase after you start it and the alternator starts charging? Should be 13+ volts.

I disconnected the battery minder and that seemed to do the trick. It does not drop below 12 as much as it was. On one of these stops I will need to get a repair guy to look at it.
