Battery venting ideas
I'm putting 4 batteries in a storage bay and looking for ideas on venting. It looks like I'm going to have to vent through the door. Has anyone done this or seen a way to set up venting through the door? My concern is opening and closing the door with a vent hose attached, and it kinking or ending up in a position that won't vent.
Thanks

Marine batteries have a cover that has a vent tube on the top of the box. I'm sure you could make something up using a plastic container with a lid on the top and a vent tube that could be vented to the outside.
Our battery area has a vent in the floor as well. You need some air flow.
Merry Christmas.

About all automotive applications I have seen vent down through the floor. I have no idea what they do on boats.
If I absolutely had to drill a hole in a hole I wouldn't attach a hose. Just a hole and some kind of trim piece to keep it from looking quite so bad. Then I'd fabricate a bracket to hold the vent hose in position to aim through the hole as the door was closed. And because you want a seal, the hose support would present a flat area to the door. The a doughnut type gasket could be glued in place there.
Just spitballing.

The top and a hose is simple enough. I still to vent the hose outside.

Our coach came with a 2 or 2.5 inch diameter hold in the floor covered by heavy screen. I am pretty sure it came from the factory like that.

I added a cargo trailer vent cover to the side of one of my cargo bays to provide some venting outside. I did not want to make a hole in the door

Added some furnace filter material in it to prevent any water to pass thru event tough it's unlikely

Hydrogen gas weighs less than air. How was it vented so the rising hydrogen could escape when it rises?

When I get around to it I will end up doing something similar. I installed the batteries in the cargo bay to the left of the steps. It looks like I may have just enough room to vent it through the wall and into the step where the original batteries were located. If I pop another hole in the step where the batteries were originally it will vent out through the holes in the step. There was minimum venting from the factory so it's not a big priority right now. Just one of those gee wiz, need a project to do, kind of things.
