Beaver 1993 Chassis Comparison

Hi. I'm new to the siite but not new to RV'ing. This is my first post and I have many questions.

I'm in the market for an older RV and have narrowed my search to an older Beaver.

I'm looking at Contessa's and Patriot's. The 1993 models seem to be best suited to my budget.

1993 Contessa's were apparently built on the Gillig Chassis and the Patriot was then built on a Spartan Chassis. 1993 was the first year for the Patriot.

I'm looking for any opinions and/or advice you can throw my way.

Although the hierarchy of the Beaver would have the Patriot selling new for more than the Contessa, it doesn't appear that way in NADA.

I see that the generator in the Patriot was not an Onan.

Don: You may want to post this in the Monaco Owners forum. Click on Forums then Click on Manufacturer Forms then Monaco. Beaver owners are part of this forum.

I know from the American Coach community that the early American Eagles were built on both the Gillig and the Spartan Chassis.

From what I have read the Gillig chassis is excellent, but there are mixed reviews on support from Gillig since they do not play in the RV market any longer.

Spartan is well regarded and I can tell you firsthand that support from Spartan is excellent.

We have enjoyed a 1995 Gillig Chassis for the past 9 years and 60,000 miles.

The only support I have needed from Gillig so far is determining the Gross Combined Weight Rating. Gillig is still building buses in Hayward, Ca.

The ride is soft and handling good, but I have no comparison to the Spartan Chassis to offer.

At that vintage, one was a Truck chassis and the other a Bus chassis in my view.

Our rig has a Cummins engine and a PowerTech diesel generator. Both work fine.
