I feel like I just went through all of this. We bought (and sold) a 35’Thor Palazzo 33.3 last year as a family coach (two kids 5/9) and we wanted bunks that didn’t require us to pack beds up everyday. Worked well for our trip but build quality was troubling. This year we bought a bigger 45’ 2007 Beaver Marquis and I’m in the middle of converting the rear closet to bunks.

There are interesting bunk models but few and far between in the quality coach set. Looked at A Discovery 42A with the rear bunk room, Discovery 40G, and American Revolution 42T with the rear bunk room. Ended up deciding to build bunks which opened up more options - The HR Navigator 43FST and Monaco Dynasty Palace III were options, both 2006/2007 models and right at $100k 45 days ago. Ended up spending more for the Beaver, mostly for the pre-emissions C15 and because it was all electric. No matter what you get I’d keep $10k for stuff you will inevitably want to or need to do to make it work for you. Floor plan seems most important if you plan to use it well. I really like the Alpines, there is one in the irv2 classifieds for $37k that seems promising. National also seems likeable. I was looking for a tag for an Alaska plan and was focused on 05-08 Navigator, Beaver, Country Coach, Foretravel, American Revolution models.

That's true the Dutch Star's and up models have fiberglass. But it's an option on their lower model line up. For the price of a Newmar it should be standard.

Like many manufactures of that era, Monaco built models to meet certain price points to cover a wide assortment of buyers desires, and budgets.

IMO, in the Monaco lineup, shop the Dynasty on up models. (Better chassis, all will be side radiator and have better options and materials. This comment also applies to the Holiday Rambler and Beaver and assorted other makes from Monaco over the years - they will have 'equivalent to' coaches to the Dynasty on up.).

That being said, the Diplomats were exactly what one should expect at that price point in the Monaco lineup. Not meant as a negative, but a positive. And being an 06, be sure to get the engine serial see if it falls within the Suspect Wrist Pin serial range.

Good hunting,
Smitty

Looked at a 2006 Fleetwood Revolution and didn't like the fit and finish compared to the Monaco's I've seen.

This Windsor looks look for the money. What do y'all think?

The Monaco Windsor is an awesome coach. A 2004 model will have the Cummins ISL and an Allison MH3000 transmission. Great combination.
Have it professionally inspected and budget $10-20k for repairs and updates. It will go another 20 years.

It looks great in the pics. I believe this MH (like mine) had a problem on the bottom corners of the slides. I knew about this before I bought mine and bought it anyway. I eventually drove to Talin and had them put the guardian plates on all four slides. It's about 1k per slide.
This vintage Monaco, HR had play in the steering box right from the factory AFAIK. My play is about 1". Believe it or not I'm so used to it now I might not fix it right away. Search Shepard or TRW steering box to see lots of info.
You might also want to look up Jiffy splices.

We are very happy with our 2007 and this one looks nicer from what I can see.

I've been wondering that for years. We don't use ours, but I imagine people do. Maybe it's just a convenient place to put one. Moving one seems like it would be just as hard as moving anything else around inside a coach.
