How old is the perpetrator, and if very young, did anyone actually see the bottle go down the hatch other than the kid? I ask because small children can't always be relied on information-wise.
It just seems strange to me that you can't see this relatively large object- makes me wonder if it went down the hatch at all!

Just thinking out loud.
What if you had a mesh (fishing net comes to mind) and tied two lines to it with float strategically attached (don't know where) and a little weight so it floated about an inch below the surface, and let it into the tank. Keep working it and jack one side then the other to make the bottle move around.
Like I said, just thinkin' out loud.

I am thinking the same thing and here is why... Just about 10 days ago I dropped a water bottle into the toilet (don't ask). I happened to have my foot on the flush at the time and straight into the hole it went. However it didn't disappear. It went a foot or so down and got lodged. I assume it was because there is a bend or something there that stopped it. Either way I was able to easily fish it out using some long tongs (since sanitized!).

Filling with water, then dump the tank, if no issues, maybe it didn't go into the black tank after all? It's so hard to believe you couldn't see it or find it with your diagnostics and reconnaissance.
Hope for the best....

child is 9. I keep a bottle of water in the bathroom cubby next to the toilet for "emergencies". Its a straight shot down the chute on my toilet... so its not hard for it to disappear. The child did confess

tis what worries me. Could it be lodged in the dump section of the plumbing? There are some severe angles there

Oh, Oh, be careful, there are some on here that will want to make you eat a bar of soap!

You might try finding a trained squirrel who could go down inside the tank and look around. Sorry, but this sounds EXACTLY the type of predicament I'd get myself in to.

I have this thing called a shower, and in this shower is a shinny thing called a drain. Also in this shower, is a bar of soap and a wash rag.
IT ALL COMES OUT IN THE WASH! Get over it.
Take a hose and spray it towards one side to get a whirlpool going. It should float past the toilet opening.
