Best way to patch fiberglass crack

Hello,

This season a crack in my fiberglass sidewall appeared. How would you go about fixing this?

One person I spoke with advised me to fill with epoxy and then caulk over it. He stated that it wasn't necessary to drill holes to stop the crack.

I found something called MagicEzy which I was thinking of trying....

Drill a small hole to keep it from growing, then carefully sand a valley into the cracks. Use some tape to keep a clean repair. Take a small amount of resin and with a acid brush dab it into the sanded valley and add a few fiberglass fibers and build it up let it dry and sand smooth and touch up paint. If planning on not keeping then just caulk it

Dont drill it, It's nondirection matt, not steel. The crack looks to just be in the gel coat. Don't be concerned at all if it is. Grinding it out and laying chopped up matt is the only way to permanently fix a full crack.

What is the coach? Some manufacturers had issues that they will repair. I know Tiffin had a few problems and would take care of them.

Best way to patch fiberglass crack

I had a crack in the wall below my bathroom window that I fixed using "Capt. Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure". I found it through a boat parts supplier. I just looked and Amazon has it. It worked great!

My personal experience;

I had a very similar crack at the corners of my 5er's slideout. Had the crack professionally repaired, it cracked again in the same places the next year.

I then took our 5er to the Dutchmen factor repair center. They removed the Filon sidewalls to inspect the aluminum framework. They found the gusset welds in the frame around the slideout hole were broken. They re-welded the gussets and frame, repaired the Filon again. It was still intact when we sold the 5er.

Bottom line, fix the underlying cause of the crack or you will repeat the repairs.
