black water tank ?

ok so a friend of mine helped me clean out my black water tank and I was doing other things. he hooked up the wash out hose on the side of the tank but he didn't open the drain valve. the tank cracked on the top of the tank about 12" long. how can I fix this? it is on a 1990 HR

If it is a poly tank it will require welding a like material.

I am afraid your friend cannot be fixed.

There have been threads on fixing cracks in various tanks but that sounds like a big crack. May need to replace both friend and tank.

Someone with first hand experience "welding" tanks will come along. In the meantime try the search (I hate to get much less give that response). Does seem that a recent thread was posted though so might not be too hard to find.

Good luck.

Sorry for your troubles but it doesn't sound good.

I'd sure be checking your black tank vent when you do the repair because I don't see why your tank would burst if the vent were clear. The water should have been forced up through your roof vent.

Good luck.

Assuming the toilet is unbolted, how about the vent pipe to the roof?

I actually did the same thing when I first bought my 5th wheel. The tank filled and the water went out through the vent. luckily was brand new unit so the tank had not really had time to get dried material in it

AS far as the crack goes. I have another post about fixing tanks. Auto parts stores sell a epoxy that will fix plastic tanks. my tractor has a plastic tank and I had a crack in the bottom of it. I used the epoxy several years ago and it still does not leak diesel. if the epoxy will fix the bottom of a diesel fuel tank you are probably not going to have a problem with the top of a black water tank
