I believe it is the "avg fuel economy" gauge/option you need to find. Some things don't work with some models/engines/years. So I doubt you will find documentation for this.

My bluefire reports instantaneous gas mileage… anywhere from 4 -20 mpg .
How does one set it to calculate trip fuel economy? Can’t find this anywhere?
It just displays 0.0 for trip economy…
SO not sure which engine/trans combo you have but in our case (2001 Cummins 350ISC) the ECU does not transmit actual fuel flow as some of the newer models do but there is a setting (in settings) that you can use that will estimate your fuel flow as ours does. There is also an offset option that you can use to dial this in more precisely....after just a little fiddling mine is VERY accurate, like within .5-1GA per fill-up.
