Boy Oh Boy was I lucky

After campin for 9 days in very hot and muggy conditions and a day before we were going home...this happened! If you look at left side of terminal #2 & #3 on botom side, those two were not attached and I believe that is what triggered the melt down...I will Praise Him for saving our rig!!! It is an IOTA ITS-50R transfer switch and I believe no longer available...does anyone know a direct replacement...Many Thanks!

Wow that could have been a lot worse. You should go buy a lottery ticket. Glad you came out unscathed !

This IOTA transfer switch was recalled in 2015.

" recall applies solely to models equipped with an IOTA ITS-50R transfer switch. These transfer switches, used in vehicles wired to be powered by a generator, may fail when exposed to elevated electrical loads and used in higher ambient temperature"

You are extremely lucky.

Prior to Sept 2001 Monaco used your transfer switch but then started using this LPT50BRD

https://www.amazon.com/Esco-LPT50BRD.../dp/B008VF91ME

These are readily available so shop around for the best price.

If that transfer switch is recalled for your exact situation, then it may be financially responsible for the problem and result.

When you are saying "it was disconnected"...is this that it was unplugged or that if fried and melted disconnected? If the latter, then claim the whole repair and all the replacement parts and labor to the manufacturer of the transfer switch.

thats a reminder that everyone should examine the wired connections in their transfer switch and main panel periodically. Road vibration causes loose connections and high current connections that become loose, get hot, spark, and may cause fires!

Good catch! Good luck with replacement

When I got to it, the red and black on btm side #2 &#3 were not attached and either melted, came detached and that started the sequence I think??? All others were tight...I sent an email to Iota Sat AM...

Can't answer that yet...still waiting for call from them (Iota)...Use #2 square drive and check tightness every 6 months (most say once/yr)Both times it was from "came loose"...I am replacing with PD52DCS (progressive dynamics) per recommendations from this forum @274.00 Boat &RV Accessories 260...I am prime member and had credit w/Amazon and quicker deliveryso I went with them. I think I could do PD52 (w/out overload protection) and use Sure Guard...but wanted over kill...ps make sure disconnecgted from shore and generator off b4 opening it up...

You have 2 wires under your ground lugs and neutral lugs . In n.y. You Can only have 1 wire per lug. You can wire nut together with a short wire to lug. I Wonder if you had loose grounds Witch cause your hots to overheat.

Yeah, our 08' model came with one as well.

Changed it out a few years ago to an ESCO model.
