Broke down on I37 south of San Antonio

Engine died pulling into Live Oak County rest area. Interstate 37. North bound heading toward San Antonio. Between Three Rivers and Campbellton. Been slowing down like not getting enough fuel. Now stopped. 1993 Gulfstream diesel pusher. Cumming B5.9 12 valve, mechanical. Fuel filter replaced just a few miles ago. Any suggestions on mobile mechanic or where to have towed. Posting this for my friend who is driving the motor home. They have a tow so can drive home to just west of Austin to home. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, you say the filter was replaced? How many 'miles' ago?

HAve the operator cycle the key a few times and make sure the sight glass for the filter is full.

So, no road hazard insurance like Coachnet or other for handling it all.
I'd first pull a fuel filter and look for clogging.
Could have been sitting for awhile, then for adding algae removal, breaking it loose and clogging the filters.
A number of other things, including a failed pump. Doubtful it's the fuel solenoid, if it's been going losing little by little.

Not sure what you have there, but mine have both primary and secondary filters.
You might consider getting road hazard insurance in the future, but for now, try giving Coachnet a call and for asking them who they have contracts with near you. These people are usually trustworthy, otherwise they lose out with these insurance companies after too many complaints. Otherwise it's for just reading the reviews, before you make any calls.
I do realize that I'm not talking to them directly here, so.....

Try Truck City Ford in Buda
They will work on class A, one of the few service centers in that part of the state willing to do so.

its easy to get air in a CAPs system after a filter change. Next time do that before you buddy takes off and put some miles on it so you know it solid.

But cycling the key can cause the lift pump to work air out of the system..

and just to be clear, a few 'miles ago' is not the same as 'today'..

What is a CAPS system? Will cycling key to make lift pump work air out of system work on this old no computer Cummins? Filter was changed today, after engine started slowing down. And it ran for less than an hour. So guessing problem is not fuel filter. But who knows. Buddy's got AAA and they are towing coach somewhere. 100 mile max, after that he has to pay. He must be home tonight so he can take care of his farm animals.

Thanks to all who were able to suggest places to have coach towed to.

ok, a 5.9 uses the bosch rotary pump. prob not a CAPs system, my bad. But it still sounds like air after a filter change. Best thing to do on a 5.9 is prefill the filter before cranking.

Could it be something related to the filter change today? If the filter is not tightened enough (requires 1/2 -3/4 turns after the hand tight), air could get in. Check/tighten it at the rest area.
