Broken AC Condenser Fan

2013 Forest River Georgetown XL377, 15K BTU Dometic Ducted AC. All six blades of the plastic condenser fan have broken off and were laying inside the AC housing. Had anyone experienced this. There must be hundreds of thousands of units out there all running the same type of fan, but I’ve not heard of this being a common problem. The replacement is readily available and I’m buying an extra because if it happened to my front system I assume it will happen to the rear. Picture attached.

When 1 blade is broken or even cracked it will cause the blabe to wabble and vibrate. If aloud to run with a borken blade, vibration will eventually take out the others

I had it happen to mine in the front and it did a number on the fins and broke the isolator bolts. I bought 2 replacements in case ethe rear did it and 2 months later it did but this time no damage so it 6-7 years I will just replace both. I don't understand why this aren't made out of meta (aluminium).

Yeah, I assumed that was the scenario. Must have happened when we were away from coach because we never heard it happen.

Besides cost, they can build a more efficient fan from plastic or nylon.

The problem isn't so much about the material but more about the lack of UV inhibitors being added to the plastic. I, for one, would pay a little more for aluminum fan blades.

I’ve ordered the original replacements but I’m going to look for a metal replacement option. Not sure if I can find the same pitch but not sure how much it really matters.

I will, I need to get the outer diameter of the fan from the replacements. I think the shaft of the motor is .5”

I contacted Airxcel and they said they only make plastic.

You don't think you'll find a metal fan that size as efficient unless it was cast with a solid hub like the plastic one. The pressure to push air through the condenser will cause more air to recycle at openings near the hub on stamped and riveted fan than that six blade plastic fan with a closed hub.
Not sure if fan is nylon might explain even diffused UV making it brittle. A light coat of paint can protect it.

Had it happen on my rear AC about a year ago. Had the cover off troubleshooting but wasn't looking for that. I just happened to see one of the blades laying in the bottom then noticed they were all broken off.

I’ll keep that in mind while looking for a metal replacement. I got the plastic replacement fan today and will give a light coat of paint before installing. Good idea! Thanks.

Same here, had not needed AC for a while and when I turned it on it did not seem very cold. Went up to clean the coils and found the blades.
