Broken down in Carson City, Nevada
I am broken down and Carson City Nevada. I'm scheduled to take my 2004 Phaeton to Carson truck and auto repair tomorrow. Does anyone have any experience with this business. My differential has gone out at 93,000 miles. Any suggestions thanks for the help

I have no experience with them BUT know an automotive 'junkie' who will know, or will have buddies who do. I'm emailing him ATT and will have some sort of answer in a couple hours. Hang in there and I'll be in Reno Thursday with my 2020 Phaeton QTR. If I can assist you then I certainly will. I'm PMing you now with my info.

Good news Ken. Was able to locate someone who had work done at Carson Truck and Auto and he said they did a good job on his Kenworth. Not sure what he had worked on but the report was good.
Best of luck to you and maybe we will cross paths in Reno or Las Vegas.

Carson Truck is fine, but they are expensive at $140 per hour.
It may be your only choice for your type of repair, however I would suggest calling Nick at Performance Auto Care, (775) 883-3190, and see if he can handle the repair. If memory serves me correct their hourly rate is around $100 per hour.
I have used them for years and Nick is definitely one of the good guys.

A few years back the water pump went out on our Cummins Diesel. These guys were very accommodating in ordering up the new parts and fixing the rig. They also identified a few other items in need of attention. Took 3 days from the time the rig broke down (in town, fortunately) to getting back on the road.

Your differential should be an easy repair. I have taken 2 speed differentials out of a MACK in less than an hour. Depending on parts and availability, I would say 4 hours max. Just make sure that there are no cracks in the housing from the failure. If there are, then you're looking at some major $$s.
Be sure and have them refill the differential with synthetic oil.

Ken,
Did you get the repairs completed? Tried to contact you Friday when I was in Reno but it went to voice mail. Hope it went well.
