No matter how big you build it,

In 2 years you will be looking for more space. As grandmother said, Guest rooms breed guest and bookshelves breed books.

A 2 post lift is always on the top of my list. Once living with one, you will never want to live without it. Best thing about our 2 post lift is it keeps the cat off of my old car.

On the subject of lifts, Be wary of Bendpak, lousy customer service.

I just finished building a 40x60 pole building. 17' walls (1) 12'x14' door for the coach, and (1) 10'x10' door for "other stuff". I opted for a kit and built it myself......probably wouldn't do that again. Saved alot of money on labor BUT it was alot of work and took much longer than I thought. The plan is to build a loft across the back at 8' above the floor for a party room and that still gives me 48' from the door to the party room in case we upgrade from our 40' to a 43' or 45'.

Bigger is always better, build as big as you can afford. Lots of talk about a toilet room, be careful, that can be a zoning/building ordinance issue. In our neck of the woods we cannot put plumbing in an auxiliary building used for storage/ shop. We are in a lake resort area, and they do not want people using their outbuildings as vacation rentals. I am planning on a third out building on my 2.6 acres, but had to get a variance to have more than two and also for to have more square footage than the primary residence. I was able to do this because even though I am in the town zoning with a residential classification I am surrounded by farmland and my place was the family farmstead and already had a 30 by 46 by 18 eve 120 year old barn that I have converted to a two level shop/ storage. My new building will be 30 by 54 by 14 ceiling height, just for storage of my toys and my motorhome. Planning on lighting, but will not be able to put a dump inside, but I already have one by the driveway that is connected to my septic system.
I also have a height limitation, thus the 30 foot width and 14 ceiling. I will put in one 10 by 10 garage door for access, and a 12' wide by 14' high opening with swinging doors. I did this on the old barn and love the swinging doors and this allows the door height to be as high as the ceiling inside, which is not possible with overhead doors and a truss roof system.l The swinging doors will be primarily for the MH access. I build them with wooden framing and then use the steel siding that would cover the opening to skin them.

Hangar

I have a 40 deep by 50 wide hangar. Sold my airplane. My 2006 HR is 36 ft long. However, with the rear ladder and front mirrors it is 37' 8" long. After insulation and sheet rock in the hanger I only have 38' 1" inside wall to wall.
With the electric roll up door down I only have about 5 inches to spare. It is working, I pull in and back out. Sure glad I did not buy a longer MH.

In the process now of building a 24x50x16 foot RV building tied to a 36x30x11 shop/garage. Pads almost finished then onto framing. Maybe overkill but 6" pad being installed all the way around.

Make it bigger

I built a 50'x40'x16' with drive through 14'x 14' doors. I wish I had built it twice as big!

Size truly does matter. Sorry for the rotated images.

Built our garage last year. So many options and the budget is your only limitations. For us it was, hot & cold water, dump, 50 amp plugs, numerous 220 and 110 volt plugs, great lighting on multiple switches, heat, epoxy floor, floor drain, used a single door for easier access (no posts). Wish it was longer (50’) but we had to draw the line on costs. We used to pay a small fortune to store it and just love the convenience of having it right here. Not a single regret. Plan, make your list of things you want and enjoy! Not sure how to include a photo but I’ll try.

Lots of nice ideas and buildings here. Mine is 35x75x16. 12x15 door in one end for the mh with a walk door, 2-10x10 on one wall for the cars. Full bath. Plumbed for sewer, water and 50 amp along one wall with additional hookups on the outside of the wall for visiting campers.
Ya can’t go too big.

[QUOTE=Rob Mitch;6123657]I am planning on having a metal building built for my 45 ft motorhome. It is to serve also as a garage for our Jeep, one ton dually, Harley and a work shop. I presently am thinking 60 X 50 feet or 60X40 feet. With full hookup inside and maybe a small rest room. Some ideas on a floor plan would really help me a lot and pictures would be great also. Since I have plenty of room I am considering doors on each end. I know it will be expensive with today's cost,

I had metal building designed for 180 MPH winds since we home base in Florida. Had 2 interior partition walls included. The overall size is 55' deep*58' wide. The center is 24'w x 25' H center peak with 20' w x 16'h insulated electric overhead door. Work shop and laundry room is right side with 10 x 10 insulated overhead door with access door. Had the interior roof poly foamed sprayed insulation. The walls insulated with 2" cut to size foam insulating panels. We ended up building out left section 16' wide by 55' deep into a guest quarters. The whole area is temperature controlled with guest quarters on own system. Have exhaust ventilation to hook up aquahot, generator or engine if I need to service or test run. Also has full inside hook up including 140 degree hot water to flush holding tanks.*
This was built in 2019 with 6" concrete and finished out around 140k. Alot of the work we did with some Mexican help.

I have a 40x80 x16’ pole barn 20’ doors on both ends. You could do 16’ door on both ends
Do not go less than 16’ sides that will give ya a 15’ high door.

i wish we had room to the side to expand. i could but that probably put me in the dog house
we are at 45 x26 wide with 16 foot ceilings, climate controlled, TV, tools, loft etc and its getting FULL. r31 walls and ceiling keeps it pretty easy to cool and heat. except right after the hot bus comes in, then it takes a bit to cool back down to 68

i toss stuff out and it seems other stuff finds it way in

i do like the couch for tv and sort of a quiet space

hung up alot of navy stuff that didn't or shouldn't be in the house
