The thing about engines leaking when switched to synthetic, is an old wives tale. That may have been the case at one point in time (in ancient history) but that's not the case now.

Last, leaking valve seals can often be spotted as smoke coming from the exhaust while coasting/decelerating (due to high vacuum levels in the intake). You may see it in your mirrors, but it would be much more easily seen by somebody following. The smoke will disappear as soon as the rig starts accelerating. If the oil is seen only when accelerating, that's generally the rings....

Maybe a go pro could record the exhaust and see if and when it is smoking? you may know someone that has one.

Lots of suggestions here, some i would not come close to trying. Myself, i'd find the manual for that engine and see what different oils it actually recommends. Go with the highest it actually mentions and don't put anything in there that isn't recommended. The 92 is probably fine running it but i've seen manuals for newer engines specifically state not to use 10W-40 oil.

I wouldn't use synthetic if the engine is using oil.

Engineers now want the oil to the top of the motor as soon as possible which is probably why they recommend the use of 5W or 0w oils now. It seems like a good practice.
