We ended up paying cash for our recently acquired '07 Phaeton QDH. I was going to finance it with our credit union that I've been banking with for over 40 years. I had the loan approved and everything. The approval letter said all I need to do was come in and sign or the voucher. When I went into the credit union to close the deal, they started giving me a hard time. First, they wanted to inspect the coach. Uh, well don't have it with me. It's two hundred miles away and the owner was kind of reluctant to let me take off in it before he received his funds. Besides, it won't even fit in your tiny parking lot. Then they wanted the seller on-site to close the deal. Well, while the coach is 200 miles away at a consignment dealership, the owner is three states to the left about 800 miles away. Then they wanted to see the official title. Well, the owners still have a loan on it so all we have is a copy of the title. Nope, not good enough. Have to have the original. Then they ran the NADA and said, oh this won't work, you are paying $1k over NADA. I explained that the coach had two brand new leather sofas, two new leather captains chairs, six brand new Micheline tires, a brand new washer/dryer, brand new awnings, and brand new custom window blinds throughout. The owner spent close to $15K just to prepare it to sell. I have the receipts for the renovations in-hand.
Finally, I let loose with a bunch of expletives in their lobby and said screw-it, I'll just pay cash. I immediately walked up to a teller and directly wired a rather large sum of money (out of an account in the same credit union) to the seller and had the deal closed within an hour.
