I will get a chance to see if General did right by me, I will be leaving in the morning and be out in the MH for two months. I hope all is well.

I'm thinking the best way to purchase new is to....order from the factory. Fly to Indianna or wherever the unit is manufactured, put it on the lot and camp/live in it for a least a week. Make a list each and every day and get the right tech to come out and fix it. And then when every plug, cabinet, appliance, button, switch, engine, tv, etc works....give them $$$ AND not before.

You never have their attention as much as when you are dangling $$$$ in front of them and not signing on the line.

I tried that. No luck. My dealer understandably told me that on a brand new coach 'you cannot sleep or stay overnight in the unit until you buy it." They want to have it still be "new" if the sale falls through. I suppose they can do what they want and potentially lose a sell but I understood their position. I did however have a thorough inspection and drive PRIOR to signing papers and taking title.

Not all manufacturers will sell or even deliver direct without a dealer in between.

Not going to happen. Too many units are being sold. You have already made a substantial deposit for them to build it so if you back out they can still sell it as new. Would you let strangers live in your house for a couple weeks to see if they like it before they buy?

The best option is to get a good dealer or a factory delivery.

Our dealer encourages people to stay in their parking area for several days while you live in and test all of your systems.

I can tell you from my experience there is a lot of systems to test and use to ensure they are working. Near to impossible to sit for a couple days and test them all thoroughly. How many times do you have to cycle the slides, leveling system and how many miles do you drive down rough roads between cycles to check everything? So a company with a good support system is important.

Our manufacturer has treated us extremely well with super support both on the coach as well as helping me with customizations that I want to do. Their customer support staff have been friendly and knowledgeable every time I have contacted them.

In reading the forum I believe that all of the manufacturers have had good reviews and poor reviews. Spending large amounts to purchase what you want will be no guarantee of a problem free product.

It's not much help for the OP but there's a lot of good advice here.
Visit the dealership in person. Look through the shop and see if it looks like it's professionally run. Do the techs look like they're professional or just putting in their time?
Check the forums for other owners experience with the dealership. Midway RV in Grand Rapids must have dozens of happy customer reviews for every complaint.
Third, when you need repairs, communicate what is going on, make an appointment, then show up on time and wait for the coach. I have done this three times at Midway and twice the unit was done early.
ALL dealers aren't dishonest. Neither are all plumbers, archetects, mechanics, etc. Work with a good dealer and they will work with you.

the tech said they ordered new doors and it would be about 3 weeks before they came in, so we took it home..while at home, we found about 12 issues that needed repair, mostly small stuff. so we took it back.
a week later the service writer called and said it was all done, so i told them i'd be there the following tues.(it was friday)..he calls me monday and said it wasn't done after all, that a warranty part was going to be there wed....this was THREE weeks ago....
i called last week and the service writer told me they were trying to get THOR to warranty the refer doors and they declined so now they're trying to get Whirlpool to replace them...i told him it was an employee of theirs that damaged the refer door because it was fine at the show..
i told him to replace the things and worry who pays later, it's not my problem...that was last week.
called today, he said whirlpool will replace the doors and they'd be delivered to a whirlpool service center(really ? i was told they were ordered 5 weeks ago) and that the service company would come to my house in about EIGHT weeks !!!!! unreal !
so i asked if i could come and pick up my motor home and he said "it's almost finished"...whaaaat ? he said it was done over two weeks ago except the refer doors and NOW it's not done ? what the hell did they do to my RV that they're blocking me ?
i told them my next call would be to Thor and my second call would be to an attorney...
132 grand, the things i could do with that money now...
i don't even want the thing now, i don't trust anything they've done to it..
they've had my RV for a month and they don't want to call me back and give me answers.

THAT folks, is the definition of BUYERS REMORSE..
Lemon law in many states for RVs is 45 days loss of use in a one year period.

All you do is fill out a couple of forms that go to your sect. of state (maybe it's attorney general) and to the dealership. They are then given a fixed period (usually two weeks) to effect repairs (if you haven't done that already and it seems you have). Else, the dealership/manufacturer will usually try and settle without doing the whole "register your company as making Lemons" thing. So, you'll be offered a cash settlement or a chance to swap for a new rig. Stand your ground, don't let it cost you a penny (including title transfer fees, taxes, etc.).

I had to do this with a car - took months - make sure you have receipts for everything including their requests to extend service.

I would not let General RV work on a tricycle, let alone my coach. After a few incompetent service incidents with them I would NEVER go back there for anything!
