Buying 2007 Southwind 32V
We have owned a 1999 Allegro and love it but need more space. Any opinions on a Fleetwood Southwind, workhorse V10 Allison Tranny? The drive (power train) seems a lot different than what I’m used to. Is it just the difference in length?

V10 is a Ford engine. Workhorse used GM engines. Allison transmission is a GM spinoff. Ford makes their own transmission. You may want to sort out exactly what you are looking at.

CORRECT !
To the OP, IF it is a Workhorse chassis it will have the 8.1L GM V-8 and perhaps the Allison 1000 series tranny AND the vin # will begin with " 5B4". Anything else, it isn't a Workhorse and won't have an Allison.

I don't know anything about the Workhorse chassis, I'm very familiar with the Ford F53..
We bought a 1999 Southwind a couple years ago. we had searched for about 6 months and was originally looking specifically at DPs, mainly for the coach build quality.
When we looked at the Southwind, we were very impressed with the build quality that rivaled that of DPs, AND it was on an F53 chassis.. Commercial grade cabinets, a lot of extra quality, basement heat, etc..
Although the coach manufactures went through periods of varying quality, I would definitely look at a Southwind in the future.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
Better get busy, you've got a lot of tire kicking to do! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Agree. We have a 2004 Southwind on the F53. I really like the build quality of both the interior and exterior, from the entry door to the cabinets. For a gasser I believe the build quality is just a step above many of the others.

Not trying to pick on you, but the 454 is long gone. The 8.1L GM V-8 used by WCC is roughly 496 cu.in.
IF you buy it and give me the last eight (8) digits of the chassis vin #, I can check to see if the recalls are completed.

In 2007? Probably not. Most likely the 496 (8.1L).
