Out of curiosity, what did he do to cause $6K of damage? I want to be sure not to make the same mistake!

Bought ours used from them and had a great experience. We drove over 900 miles to do business with them. We made the deal on the phone to trade with them providing both of us were satisfied when we each saw the others rig. Test drove our coach before buying it. Stayed there for three days to check out all systems and they fixed anything that was not to our liking. Never been treated so well before! Would buy from them again in a heart beat. Reason for staying a full three days was on our second day and we were to leave that day, we found a docking light that wasn't as bright as the others and they air freighted a new one in from Oregon overnight. Top notch customer service if you ask me. To recap, this was one used coach, not a new one.

Think of all the full-timers out there. They buy from a dealer and take off for the unknown. They get service, if needed, wherever they are. They surely don't run back to the selling dealer and surely don't get a motel room for 3 months of waiting time.

We bought new and never returned to the selling dealer for our Newmar. We had a couple minor things during warranty to take care of. Newmar has a list of dealers throughout the country. We picked one in the direction we were heading, called in advance, made an appointment, and the issues were taken care of when we arrived. We spent one night on their lot - with electric - and took off the next day.

The same for regular maintenance. We called in advance so they'd have in stock anything needed and we were in and out in a day.

None of our many full-timing friends have had an issue with warranty from a non-selling dealer. They don't have to spend time out of their RV home waiting to have something done.
Indeed... a "motor" home is one that is, by definition, mobile. Dealerships who sell and service them don't get this concept. I don't own a Newmar, but a good friend of mine does. He gets his major services done at the factory by choice (he enjoys it and feels better about it), but I do read a LOT on this and other RV forums, and I believe that Newmar has much of the competition beat when it comes to service--particularly for those who buy a new Newmar and get their services done like you do. That is... call Newmar and tell them the issue that needs to be solved, and then Newmar service seems to work well with their dealers to help facilitate a welcome visit to the dealership.

For those that feel that dealers shouldn't service the products that they sell EXCEPT unless they sold it... I can't fathom that opinion. But we're all entitled to our opinions, and the dealerships surely love that one.

FWIW It is not a matter of agreeing, it is understanding. - Not servicing what they do not sell is dead simple. It comes from two camps. Both are in a position where they lose money on warranty work compared to what they can make on non warranty so look at the profit & loss numbers and look at how busy their regular customers who paid a bit more for them to be there need. The special second camp is for the dealers who take it personally that you did not buy from them. Neither group cares about the folks who buy elsewhere. Some of the first group will do you if they are not busy. The second group will screw you over out of spite. Some get the full timer aspect and give them a break, some do not.

I know the OP was about new purchases but I'm throwing this in for the person who decides to buy used from them and is parusing through the forums and may stumble upon this, make sure you inspect, inspect, and inspect again from stem to stern! Ive inherited some issues and of course i knew that rolling the dice buying a used RV. Their used or trade in/consignments don't get the treatment new equipment does. It's basically a turnaround on the platter. I'm not really sure that my generator and engine were serviced like they said they were.
