Make sure the fabric is straight and centered in the slots. If off center it can cause extra resistance.

I've pretty much decided it must be the fabric. I've tried EVERYTHING everyone has suggested (and thank you to all of you) to no avail. It got a little better, but still won't roll itself up. However, after rolling it up in total disgust last time I realized that despite being lubricated and about as square as you can get, the fabric didn't roll up straight. rolled it back out and sure enough, the fabric is stretched out at the roller!!! So if you do replace your fabric and it solves the problem, PLEASE post so and where you got it from!!!

UPDATE

After much heart ache, I decided it had to be the motor and it was indeed the motor. This particular awning uses a small 12V industrial motor in a weird frame. The company that made it has since been bought out and the motor is no longer available. It was apparently made just for this purpose and application. Weird.

I bought a used motor off eBay and it performed just as poorly as my original one did. So, in complete frustration, I took one to an industrial motor shop. Turned out the armature was bad. Had a small burn in it. I had the motor rewound and completely rebuilt to the tune of $300 BUT it works perfectly now. I have aligned the awning and put everything to spec and it’s smoother than it ever was. I’m even having the second motor rewound as a spare!

Bottom line for me is, if you have a Carefree One Touch, check everything, lube everything - and find a good motor shop to rewind yours! If you think it’s the motor, it probably is on these models! Thanks for all the replies on this one!

I have a problem too on an 08 HR Scepter

I have a motor that is shot. The RV repairman says it is a Carefree R 001853. It is about 18 inches long cylinder with square end. 110V. We could not get a response from a direct hookup to AC. Did you ever replace yours?

I did. I could not find a motor to buy so I had mine rewound. Awning works perfectly now! You just need a shop that does 12 volt motors.

Some awning motors are 120 volt so his may be shot. I did a quick search for Carefree R 001853 and had numerous hits but the cost is +$1100

Mine would move slowly coming in. It would stop for a minute, then it would move again for a short time. My batters were low. After charging them up it worked fine.

i have the 120v version. I am trying to cross reference it to cheaper source. The electric shop could not figure out how to pull it apart, hence it could not be rewound.

Question Carefree Latitude Awning

Need to replace the motor on my Carefree Latitude Awning. Can't find out how to manually extend the awning so I can work on the motor replacement.

On my awning there is a bolt by the motor that you take out and you can extend the awning.

On mine you thread a bolt into the end of the motor shaft and turn it to operate manually.

Try https://www.sunsetter.com. You will need your motor details. If it is the long narrow one, my motor guys could not fix it. The replacement was $5XX something. About a third the price of carefree and I got it fast about a year ago. Good luck.
