Carefree of Colorado Awning Won't Retract

Hi Fellow RVers,

A storm has just kicked up and I am trying to bring my awning in and it will not retract. I have a Carefree of Colorado Awning on my 2006 Fleetwood Revolution LE. Single Awning. I can hear the motor trying to run when I hit the switch, but I am afraid that the few gusts of wind that hit us first might have bent it a little and now the motor isn't strong enough to do the job. Is there anyway I can Manually bring it in? Quick response would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance! Danny

Thank you for the quick reply. I really do appreciate that. That thread did take me to what I think is needed. However, now it is raining with lightning. Probably not a good idea to climb a ladder, start touching wires, and connecting an external power source like a car battery. Praying low winds through the night until I can get it looked at in the morning.

If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears. I think I am stuck until the storm passes.

Long story short, the Hub had stripped and I did as others have, took the hub from the other side of the awning and swapped it with the one next to the motor. Overall wasn't that hard after I figured out what was needed. Huge thanks for helping me get through this. The storm quieted down for the night, so no damage to awning or RV. Love this forum and appreciate you guys.

Big Awning Won't Retract

Just had the same thing happen on our large awning (passenger side) with an impending thunderstorm packing a punch! It would not retract but the motor was trying - would get about 1/8th the way around then stop but the motor still was running and so with little time left, I secured 4 of those large 14" zip ties held in my teeth, put ladder up beside awning arms on one side and tugged on them to retract against the pressure of the gas cylinder (actually came in fairly easily!). I wrapped two zip ties around the assembly on either side near the top for better grip. Did the same thing on the other side, and with arms now fully retracted had DW hit the retract button which started the long cylinder rotating with little effort - Note to self: Hubs MUST be partially stripped or a clutch assembly of some sort is worn out. Chassis batteries are fully charged up to 13.8v and good voltage getting to the motor assembly. Got the canvas mostly tucked around the spool but not neatly; at least the whole thing did retract and hard cover came down over the retracted awning! Just as we were putting the ladder away, the winds kicked up, rains came pelting down, and I quietly said ".....thank you Lord!" as I smiled!!! Oh the fun of RV-ing!!!
