Carefree of Colorado main awning issue

I have my main awning out and tried to retract it and it just sits there and winds itself back and forth. I have tried the switch in both extend and retract, but it does the same thing. Never had an troubles before. Does not retract or extend...it stays in the fully extended position.

Ideas?

What model Carefree? Perhaps the Eclipse on that year coach?

Not sure what "winds itself back & forth" means. When the roller tube turns, does it keep on turning in the same direction? Or does it wind one way a moment, and then reverse direction? On the Eclipse, the motor direction is controlled by the polarity of the voltage. If the +12v is applied to one terminal, it winds one way. To reverse, apply +12v to the other motor terminal. If yours changes direction after one turn, either the switch is bad or there is a short in the wiring that reverses the polarity.

Yes, it winds about half a turn one direction, then reverses, and does it several times until I turn off the power.

Wind braces? Not sure I have any. Owners manual for the Eclipse model doesn't mention any wind braces?

I had an issue similar to that on my Carefree door awning. It was due to the wind making the material flap up and down sort of hard. Called Carefree, they said the limits for the motor were messed up due to the wind making the top move violently. Truly the wind wasn't that bad. There is an adjustment screw(s)on the opposite end of the drum to make the adjustments. It takes many many turns to see any differnce so mark your cover to see if your going in the correct direction. It took about on hour and several thousand turn to get mine to retrace all the way.
